Crazily creative chemistry
It just wouldn’t be Science Alive! without the Royal Australian Chemical Institute (RACI). This is the 7th year the learned society and Australian qualifying body for professional chemists has been involved, and they’re sure to provide another lab-full of unforgettable highlights.
Spectacular stage show
The RACI will again be putting on a jaw-dropping chemistry show on the Science Alive! main stage, in conjunction with fellow exhibitor The University of Adelaide.
The team is looking to outdo previous efforts, which drew deafening applause, this’ll be something you won’t want to miss. Explosions, fire and high speed videos of cool experiments!
Colourful and sticky hands-on fun!
As always, Institute volunteers will be giving you the chance to get your hands dirty—or sticky, as the case may be—with a number of entertaining activities in the RACI booth.
These might include:
- paper chromatography: last year over 1100 filter papers were used and countless people went home as proud chromatographers.
- DIY sherbet: many kilos of raw materials disappeared last time, only to reappear all over the Showgrounds as a sticky, coloured dust.
- a periodic table colouring competition: stand-out efforts awarded a daily prize.
Come along this year and help celebrate 100 years for the RACI!
